We reached out to Peter Lambert the owner for Milebay.

What is the history of Milebay, why was it established and how has the company grown since it was founded?

In 2012 I left a large waste provider as Transport Manager to work for the FTA as a self -employed auditor.  Myself and my wife Caroline have never looked back and we quickly moved from a small bedroom office at home, to business offices in 2013. We soon needed bigger premises and expanded our main office and training facilities in 2017 by moving to Stevenage in Hertfordshire and now employ a team of office personnel to support our trainers and consultants located across the UK.  Through our main JAUPT approved training centre we can train up to 24 people per class at a time, in addition to facilities in Cambridge and North London.

 

What are the key services that clients approach you for?

Due to demand we are open 6 days a week, offering a range of JUAPT approved CPC courses, many of which are also FORS accredited courses.  We also run Transport Management and operator licence training and FORS eLearning.  Training takes place at our training centres, at clients premises and at venues around the UK to accommodate our client needs and offer flexible Driver CPC training day and night!

We are well known in the industry for our auditing and consultancy services, and our experienced Transport Consultants help our clients to gain and retain their FORS Bronze, Silver and Gold accreditations.  Our clients value our bespoke company manuals, driver handbooks and risk assessments which are tailored to our clients operations and business models. We also provide Earned Recognition auditing and various other transport related services, including Transport Manager locum staff and administration support.

 

What sort of companies do you work with and in which parts of the country?

The majority of our clients are in industries including fleet transport services, haulage, building and construction suppliers, heavy goods equipment and retailers.  We work with large corporations through to small businesses aspiring to meet the highest industry standards through recognised accreditation from organisations like FORS and Earned Recognition.  Our customers chose us to provide them with quality, relevant transport advice and HGV and van driver training and we enjoy strong relationships with companies across the UK and in Europe.

 

What are the biggest challenges for your customers in the services that you offer?

Regulations and requirements are constantly changing and it can be difficult and time consuming for transport operators to remain up to date and compliant.  Our Consultants identify where a companies operations and systems could be improved to increase efficiency and reduce cost, in addition to raising, meeting and exceeding standards that demonstrate transport management excellence.  We then provide advice and support to help companies get organised and be prepared for auditing.  Accreditation opens the doors to new and desirable tenders and contracts that require proof that a business’ operating model and transport systems are robust and professional.  We ensure our clients gain the accreditations they strive to achieve.

 

 

How has FORS accreditation helped grow the business?

Becoming FORS Associates in 2014 gave us the opportunity to increase revenue through new contacts and FORS became a framework for us to grow our products and services from.  Membership offers us valuable knowledge and advice, is a key source providing us with the latest industry news and enables us to work with great companies who share an ambition for high quality and standards.  In 2017 we became the only FORS Gold accredited Consultant in the UK and we offer FORS members discounts on our all our products and services.  FORS sets us aside as a leader in transport training and consultancy.

 

What plans are there for expanding the business with new products and services?

We use customer feedback to review the effectiveness and popularity of our training courses and services and feel proud that our continued growth is through recommendation as well as the variety and quality of the training, auditing and consultancy services we offer.  We welcome on board new trainers and consultants who share our ethos and vision for the future and will be expanding our training and consultancy services over the next 12 months.

 

What is the biggest lesson the company has learned?

Membership with key industry regulators and associations including FORS, Earned Recognition, CILT, CLOCS, ROSPA and ISO demonstrates our commitment to quality.  Quality is at the core of all our services and provides us with a solid, reliable theme to all we do and offer – something that every customer wants.  Therefore we ensure that we invest time in developing our training, plan and test our services and provide our people with the training, knowledge and support they need to deliver a consistently high quality of customer service.  Our training is delivered by experienced instructors with backgrounds in professional driving.  Every trainer has to have relevant industry experience and to of completed every course they teach with us.  Our Auditors and Consultants come from the transport industry, DVSA/VOSA, police, military and armed services and commit to Milebay’s promise to help our clients to raise their standards and achieve industry leading compliance.
